History: I was born May 5, 1886 in Berlin, Germany. I was a patriotic man and everything I did was to honor my country. It was drilled into us as children that we were better than the rest of the world. I joined the military when I was 16 to get away from a drunkard for a father and an abusive mother. I never did settle down, I never found the right woman. When I was 28, Germany went to war. I killed a lot of people in the name of my country’s honor and that of our allies who we protected. While in battle, to my horror, I found that our men were killing innocent civilians. Where was the honor in that. When I confronted my superior officer, he shot me in the middle of the battlefield and ordered that I be left to die. So much for honor.
In the middle of the night I felt myself being lifted and carried off the battlefield. Soon I was in a soft warm bed, the bullet removed and someone was caring for me. It was not one person but three. They tried to nurse me back to health but infection set in. I was going to die.
That is when this man, who would be my maker told me why he tried to save me. He saw that I had a kind heart and that I was an honorable man. He could not let me die in such a way. I thanked him and apologized for ruining his plans to save me. He only laughed then told me what he was. He was a vampire, and his family was made up of vampires. He offered to make me one. I wanted to make up for what I did in the war so I accepted his offer. It took me a long time to learn to feed off animals and not want to attack a human when I got close to them so I missed out on the rest of the war. By the time the next war came around, I was ready. I left my maker and his family and went off to do what I could to help. I spent most of the war rescuing children and the elderly, moving them to safety. I never felt like I did enough. In the ‘60’s I moved to the United States and started a new life. There were too many in Germany who would recognize me.
I wandered around from place to place, starting a new life every 10 years in a different location. It was a lonely existence until I met Whitley; she was just barely a woman when I met her. She was so beautiful, so perfect. She was the first woman I ever loved. I even asked her to marry me when she was 18. But I wanted her to know what I was, and I wanted her to choose if she wanted forever with me. She said yes. She was so excited, she wanted to tell her family right away. Of course I followed but I needed to feed before exposing myself to a houseful of humans. So I stopped to hunt in the woods not far from her house. I got lucky, finding coyote who had came to close to town, I needed to clean myself up but I heard her screaming in the distance. I was there in two seconds. I didn’t even realize how much blood I got on myself until she looked at me in horror and blamed me. She wouldn’t listen. She was convinced I was the one. How could she think that? I have never tasted human blood, she had to know that. She wouldn’t stop screaming, she wouldn’t believe me. I had no choice but to run. But I didn't go far. I stayed close and watched her, hoping the others who killed her family would come after her so I could kill them and show her it wasn't me. But they never came. I know I need to track them down but I just can’t seem to tear myself away from her. But, I’m going to, but I’m going to say goodbye first. Just in case I don’t come back, because If I can’t prove my innocence, I will never get her back. If I never get her back, I don’t want to live.

Matthew held the bullet in his hand. He had stolen it from an agent he trailed. That agent was a drunkard and made the mistake of passing out without locking his door. Matthew had gone in and stolen his specially designed gun and exploding rounds, knowing he could kill himself with it if the time came. He rolled the round between his thumb and forefinger as he stared at it. The time had come. He needed to find evidence of his innocence or die trying or after failing.
He put the round in his pocket and stood up. He pulled on his button down shirt and stared at himself in the mirror as he buttoned it up. He was ready to go. Before leaving town, he needed to make a stop. He had to at least say goodbye if he didn't come back. He stepped out of his house and looked up at the overcast sky. He had been following her so he knew which way he needed to go. Normally the thought of seeing her would make him smile happily but not now. It made him sad. She thought he was a monster.
He got in his car and made the drive to her neighborhood then found a place to wait and watch. She was doing it again. I turned his stomach that she had resorted to this all because she thought he did something he was not capable of. Her targets didn't have a chance. He didn't have time to wait for her to finish her task, he needed to say his goodbyes and get started. He just couldn't go on living without her. He got out of his car and began to walk toward her. It didn't surprise him that she stopped in her tracks and went the other way. But he wasn't going to let her go. He followed her. Was she actually afraid of him? She was…that hurt, it hurt bad. When she entered the park he called out to her. “Whitley, Whitley please, I just want to talk to you.” He called out to her. Why was he doing this? She turned and pointed her gun at him.
“I thought I told you I never wanted to see you again.”
He could hear his heart break. He just stared at her for a moment, his mind running him in all different directions. “You know what? Forget it.” He said and looked away from her, “Sorry I ever bothered you.” He blinked back emotions he wished he never had, “Because no matter what I tell you, you will never believe me. Even when I find the ones who really did it, you won’t believe me.” He looked at the ground then off into the distance again, “So just…just forget it. I’m going to find them, and avenge your family. But I won’t be back Whitley. If you’re going to shoot me, shoot me. Anything is better than this.” He turned and walked away, his hand had absently retrieved the bullet that would kill him from his pocket and rolled it between his thumb and forefinger as he walked away.
