History: This is not me. This person I have become is not me. I was popular but not in a cocky sense. I liked everyone and everyone in turn liked me. I was never part of just one crowd but all crowds. I played sports, took an active role in school; an all around clean cut guy, that was me.
Up until about a year and a half ago I didn’t know what it was like to life like a freak; I know now. Now every night I dream of this girl. I know her. I can feel it in my heart that I know her. Every night it’s the same thing. There’s nothing but blackness. I look around for something, anything to ground me to the here and now. Only there’s nothing; absolute nothingness consumes me. I panic. “I’ll do anything, please! Just make the darkness go away!” That’s when she appears, her chestnut hair whipping about from some unknown force. I stare at her, unable to tear my eyes away from her beauty. It’s when I look closer that I notice that she is crying. “Why are you crying?” it’s hurts to see her so sad and I don’t understand why. I’ve never seen her before in my life. But I know that I should know her. I feel it deep within me. “Find me Dustin. Find me and save me. It’s you. It’s always been you.”
I still don’t understand but I don’t have time to react. Just as she finishes her statement I see her start to fall. I run as fast as I can, throwing caution to the wind; not caring that I, too, could possibly be taken under. Back into the empty darkness that waits for me. That’s okay, if I save her then the darkness then it’s well worth my life. I fall into a running slide in time to grab her hand. “Lena! I got you! Everything will be okay!” So that’s her name. I can’t figure out for the life of me how I know her but at this point I don’t care anymore. I can figure all this out once I get her to safety. She doesn’t necessarily fight back but I know that she is giving up. I can hear it in her voice when she tells me to let go. I refuse, my body slowly beginning to follow her down, plummeting to God only knows where.
“No!...I can’t…I won’t!”
I protest her every inch of the way. I need her to stay with me. I can’t lose her. Not now, not like this, and definitely not in a dream. Sweat from my hand starts becoming problematic. I feel her slipping. I grip tighter, my nails digging into her flesh but it’s no use. I don’t want to hurt her but I didn’t have a choice; I needed to save her. Only I didn’t save her. Down she fell, engulfed by darkness for me to see no more. Tears roll down my cheek. I know it’s not manly to cry but I allow myself too, will myself to cry for I have just lost the most precious thing in my life and I haven’t even met her yet.
So you tell me. After having dreams like that, every night, could you stay the same?
RP Sample:
Dustin lay in his bed, willing his eyes to stay open. ‘I don’t want to dream.’ He mutters to himself. No one is there to hear him. No one knows just what he goes through on a nightly basis; pure hell. What makes it worse is that no matter how he fights it, he wants the dream to come. He wants to change it; to save her. He fought hard against the fluttering of his eyelids but inevitably his body gave in; succumbed to sleep his body so desperately needed.
And then the dream came…
Every night it’s the same thing. Dustin jerks awake to the sound of his alarm clock blaring in his ear. His temples throbbed. Once again trying to force himself not to sleep did nothing to aid his distress. He had to figure out how to stop this dream; stop it or change the ending one. He groggily got up and took a shower the heat helping to ease the dull ache in his head form the lack of sleep. He dressed quickly, jeans and a slate gray hoodie that matched his gray and green Etnies. He plugged the earphones from his iPod into his ears and stuffed the device into pocket. He grabbed his phone, keys, and back pack and headed out the door to school.
If God was merciful then he would make the day go buy as painlessly as possible.
