There is a word count rule of 150 words on the site. I hear complaints a lot about people not being able to reach the word count. Lets try looking at it from a different perspective.
“But Elek, I can’t write that many words.”
All it takes is a little creativity. Think, visualize, put yourself in your characters place. What do you see?
Example #1:
The kitten played with the yarn. (6 words)
Try again:
The playful kitten, with mischief in his eyes, pounced enthusiastically on the end of the yellow strings of yarn, unraveling the tightly wound ball as it rolled across the hardwood floor. (31 words)
Example #2:
He kissed her. (3 words)
Try again:
He ravished her perfect mouth masterfully like a Viking marauder bent on total devastation, his tongue searching for entry, longing to engage in a lovers dance with hers. (28 words)
Example #3:
He ate steak. (3 words)
Try again:
He took his knife and fork and cut into the tender meat carefully. He removed a perfect bite sized piece and grinned with anticipation as his empty stomach growled angrily, demanding to be filled. He took the mouth watering morsel into his eager mouth and chewed slowly, savoring the flavor as the seasoned juices danced across his tongue. (58 words)
ADJECTIVES, ADVERBS, NOUNS, PREPOSITIONS, INTERJECTIONS and CONJUNCTIONS….There are tools for every trade. As a writer, the parts of speech are your tools. USE THEM.
